Pinetree Way update The latest Pinetree Way campus update was delivered by Dean of Community Pro- grams & Services Jim Doerr on November 16th at the New Westminster Campus. He outlined the latest developments on the status of the partnership and the quality of relationships with Ministry of Education officials and region politicians. He also outlined new developments in the plan- ning of the buildings. With regard to the partnership agreement, Doerr noted that the framework of the part- nership between Douglas College, the City of Coquitlam and the Coquitlam School Board has been established with the issue of a press release to local media. One possible benefit to the College is the use of the secondary school classroom space during the evenings. “That sort of arrangement could be an in- teresting bridge for us between phase | and 2 and an indicator of the quality of this partnership," said Doerr. The provincial economic picture has changed over the past few months, but Doerr says the partnership framework for the project has been strengthened by meet- ings with Ministry of Education officials and politicians. The College’s commit- ment to the new campus has been and will continue to be made clear to them by our keeping to the tight timetable we have established for completion. "Nobody knows what the provincial cash flow will look like next year, but we have a project that, conceptually, is as powerful as any in B.C., and we’re working to maxi- mize support for it." Space planning for the new campus contin- ues, based on user group requests. The next step is to plan the details of what goes inside all that space, said Doerr. "The process includes each user group getting a final go at the plan, and then signing it off. It’s a balance between what we want, what the architects can design, and what is technically possible." a A significant development is the possibil- ity of a fieldhouse containing volleyball and basketball courts, a running track and a seniors’ centre. The development of the fieldhouse will depend on the needs of the three partners, and the amount of money available. Doerr said that he hopes the architects’ renderings of design concepts for the new campus will be available for the next up- date meeting on December 14th at 10:00 am.
