The women’s doubles team of Alice Lee and Lindy Liu had a fan- tastic tournament and _ were rewarded with a bronze medal. “T am so happy to win a medal,” said an ecstatic Lee. The duo, who were paired together only two weeks prior to the provincial championships, lost their first match of the tournament but kept fighting every step of the way to gain the third-place finish. “The girls have come a long way and I am very, very proud of them,” commented coach Al Mawani. Alice and Lindy, who have become the best of friends since becoming a doubles team, support- ed each other throughout the provincials and nationals. “T have so much fun playing with Alice and I hope we can play together again next year,” said Liu. The mixed doubles team of Bryan Yee and Tiffany Cheong won silver in the competition. Bryan and Tiffany played very well throughout the tournament, but fell just short against a very strong team from Alberta. The mixed team got stronger and stronger as the tournament went on and convincingly defeated the Ontario-1 team in the semi-finals. “It was a good ending to Tiffany’s playing career with the Douglas team. I’m very pleased for her and for the hard work the two put in,” commented Mawani. Cheong has qualified for three nationals and won two silvers along the way. “Tm pleased with my perform- ance and am very happy to finish my last year with a silver medal,” said Cheong. Polling stations will be available at both eampuses. The polls will open at New Westminster and Cequitlam from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on March 22 and on March 23, polls will be open from 11:00 am to 7:60 pm. WHERE WILL STUDENTS VOTE? Students who are taking courses at more than one campus must vote at the campus where they are taking more than 50% of their courses. Students who are registered in courses evenly split between campuses will vote at the New Westminster campus. Student’s polling station is determined by the registration in eourses as shown on the Douglas College Student ET NETL NA T/T NAT NAT GT NAT GTN will continue her association with Douglas College by becoming an assistant coach with both the Douglas team and the junior bad- minton academy. Bryan Yee was also very pleased with his performance after a car accident had threatened to ruin his season. Yee worked hard to get back his fitness and played very well at the championships. He expects to return next year to try for the gold medal. “I’m happy to win the silver but I’m going to commit to my training with my coaches over the next few months and try to win the gold next season.” Team BC, represented by four members of the Douglas College team and four members of Langara College, won the Silver medal in the team championships portion of the CCAA championships, losing to a powerful Alberta team that swept through the final.
