THE INSIDE ZONE by Carillon Die College is filled with wonderful people who do their jobs well. They go largely unnoticed by people outside their area, but without them, Douglas College would not be the same. People like Judy Murray in Developmental Education, Kathy Rae in the Registrar’s Office and Margaret Zucht in Community Programs and Services. Not only are they competent workers, but they bring with them a friendly attitude which makes it a pleasure to know them. Speaking of competent and friendly people, Phyllis Mitchell, who has been working at the College since 1981 and in the Foundation Office since 1984, has been appointed as the Program Assistant in Community Programs and Services. Her specialty is in the conference area. And while Foundation director Mark Crozet is scrambling to fill Phyllis’ big shoes, he will also have to find a replacement for Alumni coordinator Brigitte O’Rooney. She’s the new Director of Presentation House in North Vancouver. The sunny North Shore seems to be very popular with Douglas College employees as general nursing instructor Kathy McIndoe leaves us for a position at Lions Gate Hospital. Another long time Douglas College employee, Georgina Ferguson, has a new appointment. Georgina is the new assessment officer. We wish we could tell you where her new Office is, but as of press time, the college hadn't found one. If you need to talk to her, Georgina can be found in her old academic advising office. Looking for Bill Day? If you happen to be one of those people who likes to have a tan all over, you just might run into him. According to Bill, his new office at UBC overlooks Wreck Beach. How is Bill ever going to get any work done? NO SWEAT! Security person- nel say the new shades in the concourse work. A reliable source, who didn’t want us to use his name, says, “It is significantly cooler sitting here in the security booth. I’m not sweating buckets of water.” Heather Kent is the new theatre technician, replacing Paul Runnals who left us for Music 91. She started July 2nd. The library has a new collection of people. Actually they could be called reprints. Corky McIntyre is back as a part time reference librarian after several years absence working for the Vancouver Children’s Festival. She will be replacing Mary Matthews, who has left to go on INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / July 9, 1997 maternity leave. Jean Cockburn is also back. Jean is replacing Ralph Stanton, who is reportedly very happy up on the hill at Simon Fraser University. Special congratulations go out to former library employee Pam St. Denis. Pam obtained her Masters degree in library sciences at UBC in June. A warm welcome back to Debbie Perrin in the Registrar’s office. We missed you. Former Public Information Office publicist Barbara MacLean returns for a two month stint as graphic artist. She is replacing Marilyn Attwood who has taken a leave of absence. Best wishes go out to Social Science employee Colleen Romano, who is expecting her second child. “SIS!” Sounds like an ultra security force. It is the Registrar’s new Student Information System and it will be starting this week. Watch the Inside for further details. Notice how we didn’t poke any fun at the Deans this week. Seems some of them are a little sensitive. Still, we can’t resist asking the following question. Which Dean at the recent ACCC conference was chosen as the best dancer? A hint? It wasn’t Gordon Gilgan. & Me 5s
