A second project in Squamish involves a retraining partnership between Western
Pulp Ltd. and the provincial Open Learning Institute (OLI). The pulp company
recently completed a $214 million conversion to state-of-the-art technology at
its Squamish plant, and OLI prepared the course materials for retraining local
pulpworkers to use the new systems. The new skills enabled the workers to

remain employable in the face of technolgical change.

Colleges and Institutes Week will be observed in many institutions with special
publicity events to inform the local community about current programs and
educational opportunities. These publicity events will vary with each
institution, and include local media interviews, speakers' bureaus and -in a few
locations - a campus "open house". The Minister urged interested individuals

and organizations to contact their local college or institute for details.
