ay 2004 lan Sonnenschein, Ron Jr. explained what he saw through is years with the Church. Ron r. stated that, “What a lot of people don’t realize is that cientology is black magic that is ust spread out over a long time period. To perform black magic generally takes a few hours or, at ost, a few weeks. But in cientology it’s stretched out over a lifetime, and so you dont see it. Black magic is the inner core of Scientology.” With widespread rumours of L. Ron Hubbard Sr. authoring The Brainwashing anual in 1955, this statement doesn't seem too far from the ruth. But can one really trust the son of someone like L. Ron ubbard? Either way, it doesn’t shine well upon Scientology. Ron Jr. also told Sonnenschein of the writing of Dianetics that his ather took “bits and pieces from pther people and put them ogether in a blender and stirred hem all up—and out came Dianetics!” This process surely ouldn't have taken thirty years, and Ron Jr. also mentioned that is father once told him it took bnly one year. But the Church of Scientology denied all statements ade by Ron Jr., and refuses to ooperate with media who hold egative views of the organiza- ion. In fact, the Church has gone o great lengths to keep all insid- br information concerning the hurch out of the public eye. While most religions preach their beliefs, Scientology gives only ague hints to the layperson of what they truly stand for. Scientology has been created in uch a way as to appeal to peo- eir own inadequacies. The hetans that are supposedly housed inside of us, causing all he negative aspects of our pecies, gives this to those people willing to take responsibility or their actions. It is the middle boint between psychology and eligion, effectively making it a ult. The organization was built or what people want to be true, ot what they need. I have to say at L. Ron Hubbard was a bril- ant man—but then, so was itler. ble’s need for an explanation to, Opinions Collage by Trevor Hargreaves, Photographed by Angela Blattman OtherPress | 7
